How do I hold a World's Biggest Coffee Morning?

1. Register| to hold your own event.

2. We'll send you out a pack with everything you'll need to make your coffee morning a success - guidelines, posters, invitations, balloons and a collection box (You can also choose not to receive a pack, but download lots of these materials).

3. Decide what you want to do, where and when. You could have a bake-off at work, a coffee morning at home, a dinner party with friends… it’s your event.

4. Invite your friends, family or colleagues.

5. If you want to open your coffee morning to the public, you can post it| to our online coffee morning map|.

6. Hold your event: buy some biscuits, bake a cake, put on the kettle, clean the smoothie maker, put out some doilies... do as much or as little as you want! The official date is Friday 30 September 2011, but if this isn't convenient you can hold yours on an alternative day.

7. Ask for a donation for the coffee, cakes and food people eat. This could be a set price for attending or whatever people are happy to donate. There are also lots of additional ways to fundraise| on the day, depending on what kind of event you’re holding.

8. Pay in your money| online or at the bank using the unique paying-in slip you were sent.

How do I raise money at my coffee morning?

Just ask your guests for donations for the coffee and cakes. There are lots of ways to raise additional money at your coffee morning, such as holding competitions and raffles. Check out our Ideas| section for some tips.

I want to open my coffee morning to the public.

The first thing to do is post the details of your coffee morning| to our online map. You can download posters| and promotional materials to put up at your work, in shops or anywhere else.

It is also worth getting in touch with your local newspapers or magazines to see if they will give you any coverage. If you need any help or guidance, your local Macmillan fundraising office| is always on hand to offer tips and support.

There's a mistake in my public coffee morning listing.

You are not able to change or edit your public coffee morning listing once it is submitted, therefore please be very careful that all your details are correct before you submit them. If there is an error in your listing that needs to be corrected, please email coffee@macmillan.org.uk|. Please include your full postcode, venue name and organiser name.

I've lost my unique paying in slip.

There are several other ways you can pay in your money: online using our secure donation form| or by sending a cheque to The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning, Macmillan Cancer Support, Freepost RG172 Bracknell RG12 1ZX.

Alternatively if you would prefer to use your paying in slip, please call the Hotline on 0845 602 1246 and we will send you another in the post.

Will I get a letter acknowledging my donation?

Yes, you will receive a thank you letter from us within a few weeks of receiving your donation. If you would prefer to receive a certificate, let us know on 0845 602 1246 or coffee@macmillan.org.uk|

This will be thanking you personally, but if you would like it to thank a group of people or a specific place again, do let us know.

Do I have to hold my event on 30 September?

No, Friday 30 September is the official date of the World's Biggest Coffee Morning, but you can always choose a date that is more convenient for you and your guests.

Do I have to pay my money in at specific banks?

We ask our supporters to pay their money into a branch of Royal Bank of Scotland, Natwest or Ulster Bank. It's important that other banks are not used to bank money raised from your coffee morning as often these banks charge a processing fee. Using another bank also means that we won't be able to trace your payment back to you, which means we cannot thank you for your donation.

There are other ways you can bank your money, including online| - find out more on how to pay your money in|.

Do I have to raise a minimum amount?

No, there is no minimum. However we would like to encourage you to think about other ways to raise money| at your event so we can help more people affected by cancer.

What is Gift Aid?

Gift Aid| is a Government scheme that enables charities to claim the tax that supporters have already paid on their donations. To allow us to claim this back you must be a UK taxpayer and have paid sufficient income and/or capital gains tax to cover the amount Macmillan will reclaim in each tax year.

This means that Macmillan is able to reclaim tax on voluntary donations made by your guests at any World’s Biggest Coffee Morning. It may sound complicated, but in simple terms once your guest has:

1. Made an individual donation.
2. Filled in all the spaces on your Gift Aid sheet (found in your World’s Biggest Coffee morning pack).
3. Ticked that very important Gift Aid box.

...we can increase their donation by 25p for every £1 without costing them another penny!

* Gift Aid does not apply to non-UK tax payers, Isle of Man and Channel Islands residents.

I can't hold a coffee morning this year.

If you can't host a coffee morning yourself this year, you can still get involved!

Why not attend a public coffee morning in your local area? Search our coffee morning map| to find an event near you. Or you could suggest that one of your friends might enjoy holding a coffee morning.

Raise your mug for the World's Biggest Coffee Morning
Macmillan really needs you to do your bit again. That’s because the number of people living with cancer in the UK is increasing. Every day in the UK, 822 people are told they have the illness, news that not only devastates their lives but also those of their family and friends.bgblockquoteend
